Saltillo faces a critical water distribution challenge, prompting municipal authorities to seek alternative funding routes to secure the city's hydration network. Javier Díaz González, the local mayor, announced plans to present a major infrastructure proposal to the Technical Council of the ISN, requesting a 160-million-peso investment to construct the "Acuaférico Cinco" or "Línea de Captación Sur".
This strategic project aims to establish a reliable connection between the southern extraction fields and the urban distribution network, bypassing the heavily saturated Luis Echeverría peripheral loop. By doing so, the city hopes to permanently resolve low-pressure issues in highly vulnerable sectors such as La Valencia, Satélite, and Andalucía.
The current distribution system suffers from significant vulnerability; any technical failure can leave thousands of citizens without access to fresh water for several days. This new infrastructure project is planned to be completed by 2027 and will include the construction of a high-capacity elevated tank to optimize water pressure.
Ultimately, securing these funds from the payroll tax (ISN) represents a key step for the local administration's long-term plan to modernise metropolitan infrastructure, preventing future water shortages in one of Coahuila's fastest-growing regions.
